From EU Directives to Energy Communities: What Denmark and Sweden Can Learn from Other Member States

The EU has established a common framework for energy communities through a series of directives, and most Member States have either implemented the legislation or are in the process of doing so. Yet a common EU framework does not necessarily lead to common national solutions. In practice, implementation has varied significantly across Europe, creating different opportunities and barriers for energy communities. 

Join the webinar from 09:00-10:00 on November 25 to gain deeper insights into the evolving legislative framework for energy communities, learn from experiences across Europe, and explore what these lessons could mean for Denmark and Sweden. 

Programme

Hannah Sophie Jacobsen, PhD student at the Technical University of Denmark, will in the first part of the webinar explore the journey of EU’s energy community directives from political adoption to national implementation, and how the directives have shaped opportunities for energy communities in practice across a range of EU countries. Drawing on these experiences, we will facilitate a discussion on what can be learned from other Member States and explore possible future pathways for the energy community framework in Denmark and Sweden. 

Jeppe Hass Bonné, from Gate 21’s Energy Team, will in the final part of the webinar focus on the role of business parks in energy communities and energy-sharing schemes. He will examine current legal barriers and opportunities and take a closer look at the Dutch model for energy sharing within business parks, highlighting lessons that could inform the Danish and Swedish implementation processes.

The webinar is aimed at actors involved in facilitating and developing energy communities in Denmark and Sweden.
