Webinar: How to implement reuse systems for food packaging at events

This webinar brings together practical, regulatory, and analytical perspectives on how reuse systems for food packaging can be implemented across different types of event settings. 

The core of the webinar is a moderated panel discussion with selected partners from the Change(K)now project. The discussion focuses on lessons learned, concrete dos and don’ts, organisational and regulatory challenges, coordination with event organisers and vendors, and system design, highlighting how reuse systems can be implemented in temporary and high-intensity event contexts.

Amongst others, Hamburg will present lessons from implementing reuse systems at the UEFA EURO 2024 Fan Zone, managing reusable cups and food packaging in a high-intensity environment with very high visitor numbers and multiple vendors. The presentation will address return logistics, mandatory requirements, vendor coordination, and operational simplicity. Participants will gain insight into infrastructure planning, enforcement mechanisms, and the realities of scaling reuse at major international events.

Kiel University will provide a comparative analytical reflection across the event pilots, focusing on acceptability, feasibility, and replicability. By comparing models across contexts, the analysis will clarify what drives successful implementation and scaling at events.

 

Q&A and interaction 

There will be time for questions and discussion with the panel, allowing participants to clarify uncertainties and reflect on how the experiences shared relate to their own event context. 

Participants will also have the opportunity to request 1:1 consultation with the pilot experts after the webinar.
